Master thesis (In Norwegian)

The thesis was based on field work in the meromictic lake Sælenvannet and was finished in 1979. The work involved measuring water chemistry and biological fluxes both in the oxic and the anoxic zone. In addition the interface where oxygen and sulfide coexist was given special attention (Børsheim, K.Y., Kuenen, J.G., Gottschal, J., Dundas, I.E.D. (1985) Microbial activities and chemical gradients in relation to the precision of the sampling procedure. FEMS Microbiol. Ecol. 31:337-350). Primary production was measured in the oxic zone and sulphate reduction was measured to characterize respiration in the anoxic zone. In the interface lithotrophic activity was demonstrated using carbon 14 rate measurements.
